Subject: "Western Mail" Is Only A Fair Western
I have a tendency to usually give high ratings to "B" westerns. However, in the case of the "Western Mail," I have rated the movie as average or below compared to its' western peers. The plot was only fair and the acting was average to below (especially in the case of the lead actor Tom Keene). I consider this film inferior to the other westerns offered on the Internet Archive.

Subject: Not so good
"The famous horse Prince", is the best actor in this one.

Subject: The Monkey Is The Real Hero
This entry in the last Monogram series that Tom Keene did is your typical Saturday Matinee Shoot-em-Up once we get to the shooting. This was a really low-budget affair even for a low budget studio, strictly by the numbers, but it serves the purpose. No major acting going on. Keene plays Keene, maybe a little more bland than usual here. The comedy is broad and inane by Frank Yaconelli and his pets.
Fred Kohler Jr, Karl Hackett, Sherry Tansey, Gene Alsace bring some color and shading to the bad guys. LeRoy Mason and Glenn Strange in small roles as well, are wasted. In those days (1942)you paid your dime and you knew what you were getting. If you were a kid you got your dimes' worth, if this was on a double bill, which it was. Superior print quality for the most part.
